Browse bikesThe short answer
Motorbike rental in Da Nang is simpler than in most Vietnamese cities: there are many rentals, they sit close to the beaches and in the centre, and a scooter for a day is usually handed over the same day you write. Da Nang sits between the sea and the mountains: the Hai Van Pass to the north, the Son Tra Peninsula to the east, and a flat beach road south towards Hoi An. A scooter covers the city and the beaches; a real motorcycle opens the pass. A plain scooter or moped is the cheapest thing to hire, a maxi-scooter or light motorcycle costs noticeably more, a big road or adventure bike several times more. The figures below are calculated from the catalogue when the page opens, not typed by hand.
This article is about the rental itself: what a motorbike costs, what you leave as a deposit, which documents you need, where you collect the bike and how to check it before riding off. Roads, rain by month and how the city rides are in our separate guide on where to ride in Da Nang, and the pass has a guide of its own; routes appear here only briefly, enough to pick a bike for them.
Motorbike rental prices in Da Nang
The table below shows live prices from the Da Nang rentals in our catalogue: by class of bike, from scooters to adventure bikes, with the spread from cheapest to dearest and how many rentals and models are listed. A price without a stated duration is always treated as the one-day price here. That closes the usual trap where a daily rate turns out to be the weekly rate divided by seven. A week or longer is usually discounted, and the bike page shows the total for your dates.
A month is counted separately, never by division: where a rental has quoted a monthly price it is shown as given, otherwise we show the weekly rate rather than invent a number. Season moves the price too: in July everything in Da Nang is taken and nothing is negotiable, while in the rainy months the same bike can be cheaper. Every figure in the table is the rental’s own, not an average scraped from other people’s lists.
Motorbike rental in Da Nang across 17 rentals in our catalogue: a scooter from 120,000₫ to 450,000₫ a day, a maxi-scooter from 200,000₫ to 1,350,000₫ a day, a motorbike from 80,000₫ to 1,800,000₫ a day, an adventure bike from 500,000₫ to 7,500,000₫ a day. That is the base price for a single day; rentals discount a week or longer, and the bike page already shows the full-trip total.
Deposit in Da Nang: 13 hold a passport or another document instead of cash; 56 take a cash deposit from 200,000₫ to 26,100,000₫; 54 rentals do not publish deposit terms, and we do not guess.

Day prices are base rates, the week includes the rental’s own tiers, and the month appears only where the rental quotes one. Updates with the catalogue.
Deposit and documents
The deposit for motorbike rental in Da Nang works the way it does across the country: a rental hands a stranger a machine worth several months of local income and wants some guarantee. It comes as money, a document, or nothing at all, and Da Nang rentals use all three. Some publish no terms at all: of the Da Nang rentals whose price lists we took from their own websites, not one states the deposit on the site; it appears only once you write. On our cards a cash deposit is written as an amount, a document deposit is named as such, and where nothing is published we say so rather than guess.
What not to leave: your passport. You need it for the hospital, the police, a domestic flight and the border, and no law obliges a private company to hold it. A passport in a rental’s drawer is not security, it is leverage: any scratch becomes a conversation about a sum that is hard to argue with when you cannot fly without the document. The working alternative is a cash deposit plus a copy of the passport and a photo of your licence. The wording that usually works, said calmly and before you have agreed to the bike: I cannot leave the original, I need it for the hospital and the flight, I can leave cash and copies of everything. For the enquiry itself we ask for a name and one contact, no scans and no document numbers.
The licence. For anything over 50cc Vietnam requires a category A motorcycle licence, and a foreign licence works only together with an International Driving Permit under the 1968 Vienna Convention. The 1949 Geneva permit, the one issued in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, is not recognised here. A Da Nang rental will most likely hand you a bike without a licence; that does not make the ride lawful, it moves the risk onto you. The fine under Decree 168/2024 depends on engine size and is several times higher for anything over 125cc, the bike can be impounded, and travel insurance almost always refuses a motorbike claim from a rider without a valid licence. Details are in the licence and insurance guide and the traffic fines guide.
Where to collect the bike, and whether delivery exists
Motorbike rental in Da Nang lives mostly where the tourists stay. The addresses we collected cluster in Son Tra district and along the An Thuong and My Khe strip by the beach, further south in Ngu Hanh Son, and in the centre in Hai Chau, with a few in Thanh Khe. From most beach hotels the nearest rental is a walk away; from the centre it is a few minutes by taxi. Each rental page shows the district and the exact address where the rental has published one; otherwise the field stays empty.
Handover is agreed by message: the time, the address, who meets you. Delivery to a hotel or the airport is not universal: of the Da Nang rentals whose price lists we took from their websites, none promises it on the site, and we cannot promise it on a partner’s behalf. Where delivery exists it is a separate line on the card, and the rental quotes the price and conditions in the chat. Coming in person has one practical advantage: you pick a helmet that fits your head, and a delivered one often does not.
Who is missing, and why: nationwide chains for which Da Nang is one stop among many, and rentals that publish prices only in dollars, because a figure converted into dong is no longer their figure and drifts with the exchange rate. They will appear once they quote a price themselves.
Which bike to rent in Da Nang
For the city and the beaches an automatic scooter is enough: the roads along the shore are flat, and the beach road towards Hoi An has a 60 km/h limit the whole way. For the Son Tra Peninsula the same scooter or a light bike with a tall seat works: the road climbs to 127 m with almost no sharp turns. The Hai Van Pass has a different rule: alone on a 125cc scooter is fine, two-up with luggage on a 110 is not, because it will not hold speed on the climb or the road on the descent. Two-up, take at least 150cc, and prefer gears if either of you has ridden a manual: a scooter’s small brakes overheat on the long descent.
In the Da Nang catalogue the classes that come up most often are light motorcycles like the Honda Winner X 150, maxi-scooters like the Yamaha XMAX 300 and big road bikes like the Honda CB500X, but the list changes, so look at the live cards on the city page, /en/danang. Engine size and the licence the bike needs are written on every card. Those two lines decide both the fine and the insurance, so choose by them before the enquiry rather than at the roadside.
Checking the bike: a four-minute checklist
Photograph the bike from every side in daylight, existing scratches included, with the odometer visible. Send the photos to the rental and to yourself by message, so they carry a timestamp neither side controls. Have every scratch and dent written into the contract or the chat before money changes hands. Four minutes, and it settles almost every dispute at return.
Then the mechanics. Brakes: both levers, standing still and over the first metres; for the pass this is the main check. Lights: low beam, high beam, brake light, indicators, because the concrete section at the end of the Son Tra ring has no lighting. Tyres: tread and pressure by eye. Fuel: it is almost never included and the bike goes back with roughly the level it came with, so photograph the gauge too. Helmet: one should be included, a second is worth confirming in writing. Papers: the bike’s registration card travels with it, original or copy, and it goes with you over the pass.
The return is the mirror image: the same photos in daylight, the same fuel level, the deposit back in your hands. Ordinary breakdowns on the road, a dead battery, worn parts, an engine problem you did not cause, are the rental’s job; a flat tyre is traditionally on the rider; damage from a fall is yours. And if the pass is on the plan, tell the rental beforehand: conditions for mountain routes are sometimes different.
Where to ride from Da Nang
Three measured routes start inside the city limits. The Hai Van Pass to the north: 17.9 km of road over a coastal ridge to Lang Co, a high point of 479 m, 15 turns sharper than 60 degrees, no fuel on the pass, and a tunnel underneath closed to motorbikes, so on two wheels the only way across is over the top. The Son Tra Peninsula to the east: 12.4 km along the shore, a climb to 127 m, only 2 sharp turns and again no fuel station. The coast to Hoi An in the south: 18.5 km of almost flat road along the beaches that does not reach the old town; from its end to the Japanese Bridge it is another 5.8 km in a straight line.
Rain matters more than altitude here: most of the year’s rainfall comes between September and December, and October alone brings more than January through June together. Morning is the reliable window for the pass. Roads, rain by month and the two dangerous sections of the pass are in our guides on riding in Da Nang and on the Hai Van Pass.
Common questions about motorbike rental in Da Nang
Can I rent a motorbike in Da Nang for a single day? Yes: for most offers the minimum is one day, and where it differs the card says so. A price without a duration is the one-day price, and a week or longer is usually discounted.
Do I need a licence to rent a scooter in Da Nang? Legally yes, for anything over 50cc. The rental will most likely hand you the bike without one, but the fine, the impound and the insurance refusal stay with you. Which licence a particular bike needs is written on its card.
Will they rent without my passport as the deposit? A cash deposit is normal practice, and cash plus a copy of the passport is accepted far more often than people expect, provided you ask before you have agreed to the bike. A rental that insists on the original has already told you something about how the rest of the hire will go.
When is motorbike rental in Da Nang cheaper? In the rainy months, September to December, when the same bike can cost noticeably less, though October is the wettest month. In July everything is taken and nothing is negotiable. The driest months are February and March.
Can I ride the Hai Van Pass on a rented scooter? Alone on a 125cc, yes; two-up with luggage on a 110, no. Tell the rental you are going over the pass, fill up in the city and be over the top before midday. If you would rather not ride alone, the Da Nang page lists guided enduro tours in the hills around the city.
How it works with us
We are a platform, not a rental: we gather Da Nang rentals with their prices and terms and pass your enquiry on. The enquiry goes without sign-up or prepayment: pick a model and dates, leave a name and one contact, the rental confirms by message, and you pay them directly when you collect the bike. There is no commission and no markup, and because we do not hold the money we cannot refund it either; in a dispute our one lever is the rental’s place on the platform, up to removal, and we take the guest’s side.
What we do not do: we give partners no badges of quality, because we are not auditors and have not inspected anyone on site; we do not promise delivery on a rental’s behalf; we do not print figures a rental has not quoted itself. If a rental does not answer, that is visible to us and to you rather than a wasted afternoon at a locked door. Motorbike rental in Da Nang starts from the city page: the live catalogue is there, with the deposit and the documents on every card before the first message.
Every bike on EastRide shows whether it needs a licence.
